Get to know Dr. Laura Testiler
Dr. Laura Testiler
Hey there! I’m Dr. Laura Testiler. I’m a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Florida. In my online private practice, I provide individual therapy to adults (18+) who are looking for support in coping with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief/loss, life transitions, parenting challenges, and past trauma.
I was born and raised in sunny Miami, Florida, where I first learned about the field of psychology through my own experience of going to therapy. Because I found therapy to be so helpful for me, I decided to learn more about psychology and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at the University of Florida. From there, I moved to Connecticut and braved the cold winters to get my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the University of Hartford.
While my time in the northeast taught me to appreciate the changing seasons, I quickly learned that I was not well-suited for New England winters! That led me to head a little farther south, to the Center for Counseling and Student Development at the University of Delaware where I completed my internship and post-doc training. There, I loved working with college students who were seeking help in coping with different life challenges and mental health issues. I engaged in special training and supervised experience helping students struggling with body image issues and disordered eating. I also enjoyed working with international students adjusting to life in the U.S.
Finally, I made my way back to my tropical roots in Miami, where I could thaw out and enjoy the warmth again! At Barry University’s Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, I helped students in therapy to understand themselves better and address mental health concerns. I also enjoyed supervising trainees and leading mindfulness skills groups with students. This work was very rewarding and deepened my passion for helping others.
Along the way, I also became a certified yoga teacher. I love any exercise that combines physical movement with mindful awareness, and I believe these practices can do wonders for our mental health. In addition to practicing yoga, I enjoy reading, snuggling with my pet pug, and spending time outdoors with my husband and 3 kids. I love learning about new approaches to therapy and am often participating in professional development trainings to broaden my skills. Most recently, I completed a certificate program training with Dr. Lindsay Gibson on Treating Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents. I am currently participating in the Trauma Research Foundation’s Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies, facilitated by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk.
I look forward to getting to know you!
